About Me

Since young, we have been brought up and told by our parents that we must study hard so that we can enroll into a reputable university, get a good degree (or even a scholarship) and get a good job (high paying one and if possible with prestige!)

All my 3 elder brothers followed the path set out by our parents and they all got themselves a good degree and a decent job. Well, I too did not disappoint my parents. I graduated with an engineering degree and got myself a job as an engineer in the Oil & Gas industry.

Unlike my brothers, my journey after my graduation was not as smooth sailing as theirs. It took me almost a year to get my first permanent job as an engineer. And guess what, I was retrenched less than 2 years into the job. I have also experienced a few downturns during my working life.

However, like most of the working individuals, we were not aware (or some chose not to acknowledge) of the risks we are being subjected to as employees. The economic downturns cycles are getting shorter, more and more companies are undergoing restructuring, more and more retrenchments, more and more employment under contract terms, etc.

I realised we lived in a different world now (as compared to my parents') and pure working hard will not means success. Our yearly increment no longer can match the yearly inflation. We are in a RAT RACE!!

So, how can we do different? How can we get out of this RAT RACE?

Work Smart, not work hard!
